Nature Literacy Unit - the Canada Goose

Nature Literacy Unit - the Canada Goose focuses on building foundational literacy through storytelling, actively interacting with core words to construct simple sentences, practice-printing simple sentences, introducing ecological concepts and the words associated with this theme, and developing empathetic understanding of natural phenomena. 

This unit provides a detailed Teacher Lesson Guide and everything you need for one week of daily 30-40 minute instruction, activity and practice.

Includes five Core Language and Nature Literacy sessions, each with three distinct parts:

✨ Developing Empathetic Understanding Through Storytelling is an experience of full engagement with storytelling 
✨ Literacy Game Using Grade 1 Core Words is a game of building simple, well-constructed, sentence with core and ecology word cards
✨ Ball-and-stick Handwriting Practice gives your students the opportunity to review their sentence construction while practicing legible character formation.

The Nature Literacy component includes two tools used in the field by naturalists and trackers - search images and developing mind’s eye imagining - to introduce ecology terms and concepts as they relate to the focus species.
